The Science of Posture and How it Affects Our Health

To understand posture, it’s essential to grasp the basics of body alignment. The human spine
has three natural curves: the cervical curve (neck), the thoracic curve (upper back), and the
lumbar curve (lower back). Good posture maintains these curves without exaggerating or
flattening them. The head should be aligned over the shoulders, and the shoulders should
be in line with the hips. This alignment helps distribute the body’s weight evenly, minimizing
strain on bones, nerves, muscles and ligaments.
